About Roles

The Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning (ABP), incorporating the Melbourne School of Design (MSD), is currently looking for engaged lecturers in a range of roles to support the future of education and research in architectural design. The faculty encourages creative research and speculation focused on design, manufacturing and prototyping, as well as practice-based theorizing and place-based collaboration, supported by partnerships, studios and analog and manufacturing facilities. advanced digital. We seek individuals who can support and develop the faculty’s mission by demonstrating a systemic, ethical, and innovative approach focused on designing global challenges and local contexts. We are looking for a new generation of design educators who can infuse the curriculum with a rich diversity of pedagogical discourses, practices, methods, techniques, approaches and perspectives. The faculty will provide mentorship and a collaborative environment in which an exchange of ideas around curriculum and pedagogy can be explored.

These are permanent full-time positions (teaching and research), although the committee may also consider part-time positions. We are looking for candidates with expertise in architectural design and technology; contemporary design practices and perspectives; design representation and modeling; making and manufacturing. About you

Successful applicants will demonstrate a developing and impactful research profile or practice and teaching equivalency that advances the discipline. To be successful in these roles, you will need to demonstrate excellence in learning and teaching, and in particular design pedagogy. You will have evidence of a passion for student-centered activities that foster critical thinking and creative outcomes, with a strong desire to build a career in the disciplines of architecture and design. In addition, you will be highly motivated and show creative initiative in problem solving. These positions are for those with a clear pedagogical intent and intellectual project, and who are interested in expanding academic careers and modes of practice in architecture.

You will also have:

  • A doctorate and industrial experience in architecture
  • Demonstrated teaching experience and skills with a passion for undergraduate and graduate teaching
  • Excellence in research commensurate with opportunity, as evidenced by a record of quality peer-reviewed research publications
  • Skills and experience in academic administration and willingness to take on a variety of administrative roles depending on position and level
